That is what I am "now" doing in 2007... But, what about the old invoices that I'm not getting paid for? We're talking two huge transcription jobs totalling over $3,000. The first reporter stiffed me for the holidays -- had to charge everything -- then she paid me after the credit card statement was already due; now I have a 30-day on my credit because of this. The second reporter, for whom I did an equally large job, won't even respond to my emails; although, of course she opened the email that had the transcript attached. I just don't understand how they can live with themselves. Aren't they supposed to have some sort of work ethic when they become reporters? I'm almost considering quitting my business. The stress is getting to be way too much, as my bills are due, yet no one pays on time -- if at all -- for the work you do for them. We're talking 25-day jobs, ten hours a day, seven days a week to get that transcript out for them...then they *&^% about how much it costs; I'm the one doing 90 percent of their job! Since I've posted this new pay-in-advance/PayPal method on my website, I'm having a tough time finding work at all. I guess the proof's in the pudding. I've gotten questions like: "Why should I pay first? I don't get paid till the transcript is delivered, then I have to wait for the atty to pay me, which can take 30-60 days, so I can't pay till I get paid" (Now wer're talking, what? Three months?) "What if I pay and you send me a terrible transcript that has to be done all over again; do I get a refund?" "How are we sure we're getting a quality transcript?" "Will you take a deposit, and then, if it looks good, I'll send the rest? " Do you have any suggestions on how to make them finally pay? Should I write a letter to their judge? Both reporters come from the same judicial district, by the way. Any advise would really be appreciated on how to collect those payments fron 2006. |
